Kingspan built a 20,000 m² production hall where a new production line was deployed to require cooling in summer and heating in winter, including a permanent supply of high-temperature heating water. Due to the absence of a gas connection, a system of heat pump cascade was designed to meet the demanding time and technological requirements. Our company has provided a complete supply of HVAC and HVAC, including measurement and control using modern technologies such as air/water and water/water heat pumps, recuperation units and heat storage systems. The investor strives for a standard close to 'zero building', which is also contributed by the photovoltaic power plant, which, however, is not part of our supply

1. Client's situation

Kingspan has completed the construction of a new 20,000 m² production hall. The purpose of the hall was to ensure the operation of the new production line, which required cooling in the summer months and heating in the winter, mainly to ensure technological comfort and possible shutdowns. A specific requirement of the line was a permanent supply of heating water at a high temperature. Due to the unavailability of a gas connection and the need for high temperatures, a system of heat pump cascade was designed. At the same time, the project was under strong time pressure due to the expected start of production.

2. Project progress

Our company provided the supply of complete HVAC and ZTI solutions, including the profession of Measurement and Control.
Specific technologies were used:

  • air-to-water heat pumps with an output of 300+ kW
  • water-to-water heat pumps with environmentally friendly refrigerant with a GWP below 10
  • Switching system with central heat accumulation and connection to earth boreholes
  • Heat recovery air handling units with a flow rate of 80,000+ m³/h
  • air conditioning and hot water units, etc.
3. Results

In the initial phase, it was possible to meet the client's requirements through constructive discussion and a change in the conceptual solution and, thanks to design modifications, to design the entire system so that it works as efficiently as possible and ensures ideal conditions for the production phase and optimizes operating costs
. The photovoltaic power plant also contributes to this goal, but it was not part of the delivery of Schulte Group, a.s.
